Garlic Mustard is an invasive species from Europe, western and central Asia, and northwestern Africa. Here, it overtakes the native vegetation that grows low to the ground. They emerge as small rosettes in early spring. Established plants grow tall stalks with flower, which drop seed. Seeds can stay active in the ground for up to ten years! Please help us in our continual effort to remove this invasive plant!

New Director of The Res

The Board of Directors at The Res is excited to introduce Kiera Johns as the new Director of The Res. She is a Mishawaka native who began her career with the City of Mishawaka Parks Dept.

After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies from Butler University, she served two AmeriCorps terms with CAC AmeriCorps in East Tennessee; one with City of Knoxville Urban Forestry and another with The Great Smoky Mountains National Park Vegetation Management. After a brief stay in Massachusetts working in Plant Pest Management, she decided to come back to her roots and serve the Mishawaka community that initially shaped her.

In Kiera’s free time she loves to hike, practice yoga and pilates, bake treats, organize home items, care for her house plants, relax with a movie and scented candle, and spend time with loved ones (including her pets).
